About Me and Birth of Rubans Colores

About Me

My love for crafting began more than a decade ago.

Back when I was an undergraduate, I discovered that doing craftwork helped me switch off from academic stress and find my calm. Chinatown and Spotlight quickly became my favourite places to hunt for inspiration and raw materials—and even today, I still visit them regularly to support these businesses that shaped my creative journey.

I’m largely self-taught. Over the years, I learned various craft techniques through researching, reading craft books, testing ideas, and going through plenty of trial and error. I especially enjoy creating earrings, bracelets, and necklaces, as it gives me the freedom to experiment and innovate with different designs. Every word of praise I receive motivates me to keep improving and to create even more unique pieces.

As my craft journey evolved, I picked up many other skills—making hair accessories, sewing ruffle pants, dresses, circle skirts, quiet books, and even masks for my family. Hair accessories were among the first items I started selling, and they inspired my brand name. 🎀 Rubans Colores means “colourful ribbons” in French, reflecting both my beginnings and my love for colour.

I first registered 🎀Rubans Colores around 2008. However, after a few years, I had to put the brand on hold while juggling part-time postgraduate studies, becoming a first-time mum, and working full-time. Now that my children are more independent, I’ve decided it’s time to reconnect with my passion and bring my craft back to life.

More recently, I’ve expanded into making pet collars, pet bandanas, and pet bows for my dogs. You can view some of my previous pet creations on Instagram at TailsOfPet. I’ve also been exploring crochet, creating items like crochet baskets for organising cosmetics and crochet handbags—fresh pieces straight from the hook.

My dream is to one day have a shop of my own selling my handmade creations. Most of my products are truly one-of-a-kind. I rarely recreate the same design because I usually work from inspiration in the moment—I don’t jot things down, I just execute (I know… probably not the best habit 😁). That’s what makes each piece special. I also enjoy fulfilling customised orders, so feel free to DM me if you’d like to collaborate.

All my raw materials are sourced from reputable suppliers to ensure good quality while keeping prices affordable.

That’s a little about me. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy making it. Do visit my “Customised Sold Products” page to see some of my completed projects. Thank you so much for supporting my humble craft—it truly means a lot 🙏🏼
